MONTANA OUTDOOR HALL OF FAME

The Hall of Fame was created to honor individuals, both living and posthumous, who made significant and lasting contributions to the restoration and conservation of Montana’s wildlife and wild places. The focus of the awards is not only to recognize Montana’s historical and contemporary conservation leaders, but also to capture the stories of these individuals in an effort to contribute to public awareness and education of the importance of conservation in Montana.

The idea for the Montana Outdoor Hall of Fame came when longtime Montana conservationist Jim Posewitz was the banquet speaker for a similar entity in Wyoming in October 2012. Posewitz returned to Montana and tested his idea with people at The Montana Historical Society and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. In 2013, his drive and passion brought together conservation nonprofits, foundations, and state agencies to capture the stories and educate the public about conservation heroes throughout Montana’s rich history.

The first class of honorees was inducted into the MOHF in December 2014. Since then, 69 Montana conservation heroes have been honored. These heroes come from a variety of backgrounds and their contributions to Montana’s rich conservation legacy are quite diverse.

MISSION & VISION

Montana Outdoor Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the restoration and conservation of Montana’s wildlife and wild places for the purpose of public awareness and education.

WHO MADE THE MOHF HAPPEN

The initial Montana Outdoor Hall of Fame was made possible through a collaborative effort at the hands of the following foundations and organizations who came together to create something special that has been appreciated by many: Cinnabar Foundation, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Montana Historical Society, Montana’s Outdoor Legacy Foundation, Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Wilderness Association (now Wild Montana), and Montana Trout Unlimited.

WHO PARTNERS WITH THE MOHF

For the MOHF to fulfill its mission of capturing the importance of people and conservation, it is important to have the support of a broad segment of Montana’s conservation and environmental community. As the MOHF looks to the future, we invite organizations to play a role with the Hall of Fame. Please consider becoming an official Montana Outdoor Hall of Fame Partner Organization.

To date, the following organizations have agreed to partner with us by showing their support, and more will be coming on board in the months to come. Organizations are listed on the MOHF website by name and logo with a link back to their websites.

MOHF upholds the highest standards and integrity when selecting deserving candidates for induction using a public solicitation and selection process. Being a partner does not influence the selection process.
